Carlene Davis Releases New Album ‘Songs of Zion‘

Reggae icon and gospel singer Carlene Davis released her 13th gospel album, Songs of Zion, on February 28 via VPAL Music and Glory Music. Available on all major streaming platforms, the album blends gospel, roots reggae, and Nyahbinghi, drawing inspiration from her homeland of Jamaica.
Songs of Zion celebrates the holiness of God’s Kingdom, offering peace, freedom, and spiritual refuge. The album reminds listeners that they are citizens of God’s Kingdom, shielded from the evils of the world.
“When God restores the fortunes of Zion in us, our mouths will be filled with praise, and our tongues will sing songs of joy.” – Psalm 126:1-2
This project is a collaboration between Carlene Davis and her husband, Tommy Cowan, who co-produced the album. It follows her 2018 release, The Assignment, and continues her mission to spread positive, faith-filled messages through reggae.
With a rich repertoire, Carlene Davis has one of the most significant catalogs by a female Jamaican recording artist. This reggae roots Nyabinghi edition adds to her already impressive versatility and musical range, earning her several international accolades. She has released over 23 albums and numerous award-winning singles like “Dial My Number” and “Going Down to Paradise.” Her contributions to music were recognized by the Jamaican government in 2010 with the Order of Distinction.
Songs of Zion features collaborations with notable Jamaican musicians such as Dave Green (drums), Dale Brown (bass), Othneil Lewis (keyboard), Dean Fraser (saxophone), and Kenroy “Shortman” Mullings (guitar). Their contributions enrich the album’s sound, blending roots reggae rhythms with the spiritual depth of the gospel message.
In addition to Songs of Zion, Glory Music, in partnership with VPAL Music, has also released two other albums on February 28: Now (The Spoken Word) by Pastor Sara Cowan and Reggae Sax (Gospel Edition) by Verlando Small. These releases showcase the diverse talent within the Glory Music roster.
The album’s first single, “Rapha,” was released in March 2024 and quickly gained traction on radio stations globally. The track, meaning “the God who heals,” sets the tone for the album, focusing on healing and divine restoration.
Since re-committing her life to the Lord in the 1990s, Carlene Davis has achieved numerous milestones, including her Certificate of Ordination in 2000, as well as her Master’s and Doctorate in Christian Pastoral Counseling from Trinity Theological Seminary of South Florida.
Carlene Davis’s tours have taken her across the Caribbean, USA, UK, Canada, and Africa, sharing the message of faith and hope through gospel reggae. Songs of Zion continues her mission to inspire and uplift audiences worldwide.
In conjunction with the album release, Songs of Zion will be featured on Glory Music’s upcoming tour, alongside Now (The Spoken Word) and Reggae Sax (Gospel Edition). Organizations across Jamaica and the diaspora are invited to apply to become a part of this inspiring event.
Songs of Zion is now available on all streaming platforms.
